A great little traditional type brass Wigeon whistle which, with a bit of work, can produce unbeatable volumes and a really superb note that carries over a great distance.

“Out of the box” this call sounds good and I do see some “layman” sellers making great claims regarding its volume but to get the best from it requires a small amount of work.

I first cam across one of these calls up at Lindisfarne on a Tide Flight for Wigeon and a friend set up 100 yards to my side was using one. I used a Haydels MP90 and comfortably out called him as you could barely hear his Brass Whistle at a distance – sounded good close up but the call failed to carry. A little bit of experimenting with his call unleashed its true potential and made for a really killing Wigeon whistle. To make the “ultimate” Wigeon whistle get an empty plastic 35mm camera film case, take the lid off and cut off the opposite end then tape or glue it to the end of your brass Wigeon Whistle so you make a “trumpet”, the increase in decibels is very significant and helps the “wheeoooo” travel over great distance. If you can’t find a film case you can use a bit of flexible plastic cut to size and joined.
