We are always on the look out for Beaters to help on our Shoot Days west of Barnard Castle between October and February each year. Our shooting is over pretty tough ground that is exposed to some really serious weather so you do need to be very fit and able to withstand the elements.

Shoot days usually consist of 6 drives which can be mix of Pheasant Drives and Duck Drives. Guns and Beaters usually meet just before 0900 with a stop for lunch around mid-day and an end to proceedings close to 1530. Days are fairly informal with guns and beaters mixing at the start of the day, at lunch and back in the pub when shooting ends.

Beaters need to bring a stick, flag, waterproof clothes, sturdy footwear and lunch. If you have a decent gun dog you are welcome to bring it along. Beaters are paid £25 per day. Novice beaters are welcome and if you are interested send an e-mail to robert@paddlesdown.co.uk

We will be looking for a couple of Pickers Up for the 2008/09 season and this is an excellent opportunity for the “novice” Gun Dog handler to bring along their retrievers and give them some good experience on tough ground. At the moment we do not offer pay to novice Pickers Up but we will give you the opportunity to give your retrievers some testing work and experience which will be invaluable for Field Trials and if you decide to move on to a larger and more formal shoot. Outside the shooting & nesting season we are happy to let our Pickers Up work their dogs on our land to gain further experience. If you are interested e-mail robert@paddlesdown.co.uk
