Wildfowling Decoys - we look at the latest Duck Decoys, Goose Decoys and Decoy Accessories

Goose Decoys

The new custom painted Flambeau Pinkfoot Goose Decoys have now arrived with us and are ready for delivery to you for the 2009/10 Wildfowling season.

The new Pinkfoot decoy is available as a full body floater or as a shell. The floater has 4 head positions and it comes with a detachable keel to give a versatile decoy that can be used on land, water or ice.

The shell Pinkfeet Decoys also come with 4 head positions (3 of each position in a box of 12) and these lightweight decoys stack together so it is a simple task to get a couple of dozen into the Flambeau Square Bottom Decoy Bag.

The new Flambeau Wigeon Decoy has been custom painted for the European wildfowler and is sure to be a great hit here in the UK. Paint detail and adhesion is first class and the broad body combined with Flambeau’s Keel system makes for a decoy that sits realistically on even rough tidal waters.

The Flambeau Decoy range for the Wildfowler available from Paddlesdown also extends to the ultra realistic Classic Mallard Decoy, Pintail Decoys, the Classic Teal Decoy, floating Whitefront Goose Decoys and Canada Goose Shell Decoys. I like to have a couple of Pintail decoys in my spread as I feel the contrasting colours of the drake are highly visible at long distance and I like to use one as my “outer range” marker at the far side of the decoy pattern. The Flambeau Teal Decoys have a lightweight water keel so a large number can be carried a long distance or in a small rucksack, I like a few Teal Decoys in the shallow margins.

Pintail Decoys

To round off our decoy spread we have one or two essential specialist Duck Decoys – the feeder and the sleeper. The Sleeping Mallard Decoy and the Feeding Mallard Decoy are what we call “confidence decoys” and they are there to give the wildfowler’s decoy spread a natural, relaxed and contented appearance, just as nature intended! Include a couple of these decoys for the best results and to get an edge when out wildfowling.

All Flambeau Duck and Goose Decoys are now painted using the latest UV Paints so that the decoys look, to a duck or goose, just like a real duck or goose looks! If you want to know the full story behind UV paints and just what birds can see then click here and see why Flambeau UV painted decoys will bring more Ducks and Geese to your spread.

Having sorted your Duck and Goose Decoys you now need to consider anchor cords for your floaters and a decoy bag?

I use the Flambeau PVC Anchor Cord, it has proved tough and tangle free over the last two seasons. I attached my anchor cords using large sized double alloy Sea Fishing crimps. Just as popular is the Flambeau Braided Anchor Cord which is mega tough and rotproof.

I use the Flambeau Square Bottom Decoy Bags for all my Goose and Duck Decoys, I get 24 Ducks with anchors or the same number of shell Goose Decoys into this bag. I like the fact this bag has fully adjustable shoulder straps and a quick release waist strap, this makes it far more comfortable to carry the long distance often required by the coastal wildfowler. The small mesh on the Square Bottom Decoy bag prevents the sharp bits of decoys popping through the bag and it stops motion stakes falling out.
