We take a quick look at the new Buffalo River Hunting Knife - ideal for the Gamekeeper and Deer Stalker.

We have just taken delivery of the new Buffalo River Maxim Skinning Knife and we are delighted with what we found.

The knife has a stainless steel blade measuring 4.5” and an overall length including the handle of about 10”. The first thing you notice is that the blade comes in a “brushed” finish to reduce glare, an excellent idea. As you can see the blade has a decent gut hook and this is ideal for gutting our rabbits and deer. The handle is a black composite material and this is ribbed for better grip, the handle is easy to clean and so meets the hygiene criteria set for Deer Stalkers. The knife comes with a pretty decent sheath that is made from a synthetic material and this is easy to wash in order to address hygiene issues.

Hunting Knife

I have put the knife to use over the last week and it has been a truly excellent work tool and has exceeded my expectations. It has a very good balance and the handle is comfortable and easy to maintain a good grip. The knife has a good solid feel and, unless you loose it, there is every indication it will give many years of top class service. The blade is very good and sharp from the off, it maintains its sharpness as well as the best knives I have used and it is simple to sharpen with one stroke through a Bladetech Knife Sharpener.

In summary a great knife for the Shooter, Gamekeeper and Deer Stalker – do not be fooled by the price
